2 more blocks

Block #5 - Bat Wing

The first was a PITA to sew.  I had to rip out seams several times and I still don't like how the block came out...

The 2nd block was much easier and was fun to put together, then again, most 1/4 square triangles are :)

Block #6 - Big Dipper
As of right now, the official start date for the FWSQ Group on www.quiltingboard.com is set to start Aug 4th.  I can't wait!!

More to come...

Templates and 2 more blocks

I'm trying to keep my templates for each of the Farmer's Wife blocks organized.  I'm keeping each set of templates in ziplock sandwich bags, and I'm labeling each one with the block number and name...

I've also completed 2 more blocks.  I'm keeping the finished blocks in a large ziplock bag so kitties don't get their fur all over them :)

Block 2 - Autumn Tints

Block 3 - Basket

Currently I'm machine piecing my blocks, and I plan to attempt paper piecing as I get a little more done.

Come back soon for another update!

Until then, happy quilting!

A book and lots of fat eighths!

My wonderful Mother-in-law was kind enough to not only purchase the Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt book for me, but she also purchased lots of fat quarters, cut them, and shared with me, all fat eighths!

I'm very excited to get started with the blocks now that I have the book and fabric.  I'm limited to how much time I can spend on my projects because my motherly duties come first (but I am not complaining one bit :)

I'm busy cutting out templates and getting ready to cut fabric tonight for several blocks, or I may piece one or two block, who knows ;)

Forgot this...

The FWSQ group on Quilting Board is set to officially start the quilt the first week of August...as you can see I've gotten a little head start!

How it got started...

I've always wanted to do a detailed scrappy sampler quilt. My Mother-in-law gave me the perfect opportunity! She showed me a book called "Farmer's Wife Sampler Quilt" which contains instructions for 111 6" blocks. I am a member of a online quilting community on the Quilting Board and they are starting a Farmer's Wife Quilt group, in which we all will work on a certain amount of blocks each week. My mother-in-law is participating even though she's not part of the board (yet). She ordered the book so I can do this too and I'm very excited. So much so that I made the first block already!
Called Attic Window...
I hand pieced this block and it's the first time I hand pieced. So far I like it. I'm going to try and paper piece some of the blocks, hand piece others and machine piece some as well. I've never paper pieced but with the help of my Mother-in-law <3 I think it'll be easy peasy!

My main purpose of writing this particular blog is for my own personal account of making this quilt. I'm hoping I stick to updating and I'm hoping it'll serve as motivation to keep going on this quilt. ( I tend to start quilts, get as far as getting the top done, then not touching them again for a while. I've only completed one quilt, a wall hanging for my mom... )

So I'm off to print more templates and put my block patterns together! Until next time...happy quilting!
